What is the difference between a porch & a patio?

Porches and patios are both great outdoor spaces, but they serve different purposes and have some key differences. A porch is usually attached to the front or back of the house and is covered with a roof. It’s often raised off the ground and enclosed by railings, making it feel like an extension of the home. Because of its roof, a porch can be enjoyed for 3 of the 4 seasons here in Colorado. Many people like to add extra features like fans, screens or glass walls to make it even more comfortable.

On the other hand, a patio is usually built at ground level in the backyard. Unlike a porch, a patio doesn’t typically have a roof, so it’s more open to the elements. Patios are made from materials like stone, concrete, or pavers, and they can be any size you want. They’re great for outdoor dining, barbecues, or hosting gatherings. Since patios blend into the landscape, they offer more flexibility in design and can feel like a natural part of the yard, while porches tend to be more formal and connected to the house’s structure.

    • How much does it cost to build a custom porch or patio?

The cost of building a porch or patio depends on several factors, including the size, materials, and design features. We offer free estimates to give you an accurate idea based on your specific project.

    • Can you repair my existing porch or patio?

Yes! We provide comprehensive repair services for porches and patios, including structural fixes, resurfacing, and general maintenance to ensure your outdoor space is safe and looks great.

    • What materials do you use for patios?

We work with a variety of materials including concrete, pavers, natural stone, and brick. We’ll help you choose the best option that fits your style, budget, and durability needs.

    • Do you build covered patios or screened-in porches?

Absolutely! We specialize in building covered patios and can install roofs or pergolas to provide shade. For porches, we offer screened-in options to keep out insects while still enjoying the outdoors.

    • How long does it take to build a porch or patio?

Project timelines can vary depending on the size and complexity, but most porches and patios take 2-4 weeks from design to completion. We will provide a more detailed timeline during the consultation phase.

    • Can you add features like outdoor kitchens or fire pits to my patio?

Yes! We can customize your patio with features like outdoor kitchens, built-in grills, fire pits, fireplaces, and more to create a functional and inviting outdoor living space.

    • Do I need a permit to build a porch or patio?

In most cases, permits are required for building porches and patios. Don’t worry—we handle the entire permitting process for you, ensuring everything is compliant with local regulations.

    • What kind of maintenance do porches and patios require?

Porches and patios generally require low maintenance, but it’s a good idea to clean and inspect them regularly.

    • Can you design a porch or patio to match my home’s style?

Yes! Our design team works closely with you to create a porch or patio that complements your home’s architecture and blends seamlessly with your outdoor space.
